Open Meeting Law: Your Ticket to the Show of Government

Updated: 14 hours ago

The Open Meeting Law is a significant aspect of Idaho Statute. It ensures that regular citizens can access the meetings and activities of their governing bodies, such as the City Council, County Commissioners, or State Legislature. While we may not always have the time to attend these meetings, it's reassuring to know that the information is accessible in some way to help keep us informed.

This is an excerpt from a January 5, 2022 Open Meetings Law seminar on YouTube by then Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden and Chief Deputy Attorney General Brian Kane with a focus on Idaho Code 74-201. I like the way Brian Kane refers to Open Meeting Law as "your ticket to the show of Government." Keeping deliberations as open and observable is important, and with the technology available to us, it's not out of reach. Personally, I've watched the whole seminar a couple of times because there is so much to learn.

I hope you enjoy this clip and if you want to learn more you can also access the full seminar or the manual.

Thanks for taking the time to be involved.
